Life’s special events—weddings, class reunions, holiday get-togethers, anniversaries, etc.—have a funny way of sneaking up on us. When we mark an event on the calendar, it seems so far in the future, but before we know it, that red-letter day is right around the corner. If getting ready for a special event involves undergoing a cosmetic procedure so we can look and feel our best, this time crunch can make us think twice about attending.
But according to Dr. Wade Banker of Luxe Laser Vein & Body Center, there’s no need to panic just because time is of the essence. Even if you have a fairly limited timeframe to work with, you still have options for putting your best face forward on event day. To help HLN readers determine which cosmetic procedures can still be performed safely and effectively in the time they have available, Dr. Banker offers the following timeline:
A few weeks from event day
At this stage of the game, many people would be inclined to think it’s simply too late to get any type of cosmetic treatment. But Dr. Banker says otherwise. “If you have a relatively short amount of time—say just a few weeks or so—before your special event but still want to look your best, there are still plenty of things we can do,” he remarks. “For example, all of the injectables for addressing lines, wrinkles, hollowness, sagging skin, excessive fullness, or other subtle facial defects can be done with near zero downtime. These include products such as Botox, Juvederm, Voluma, Volbella, and Vollure.”
Other options Dr. Banker can perform in this timeframe include laser hair removal to eliminate shaving and shave lines, quick laser facials to clear up bacteria and help refresh the skin, as well as quick spider vein treatments to “zap” those problematic veins.
A few months from event day
With a few months of recovery time available, all of the previously listed cosmetic options expand to include procedures such as non-invasive CoolSculpting and nearly non-invasive Kybella injections for modest fat removal. Other options two months out include tattoo removal (potentially very important for future brides or grooms), which can be nearly completed in this period, as well as more significant laser correction on the face or body. “A hormone replacement or supplementation program to improve mood can also be accomplished on this timeline,” adds Dr. Banker.
Six months from event day
At six months out, virtually all cosmetic procedures are on the table, including breast augmentation (Luxe Laser offers state-of-the-art Awake Breast Augmentation), tummy tucks, and very strong laser resurfacing procedures. “You could probably get by having these procedures done a few months before the event, but six months ensures you have extra time for a safe, complete recovery,” Dr. Banker notes. ❦
