Senior Star is pleased to announce that they are the first senior living community in the United States to purchase BikeAround™, an innovative program developed in Sweden to help older adults with cognitive disabilities as well as seniors who want to keep active. Senior Star at West Park Place is among the first of Senior Star’s 14 communities in the United States to implement the new program.

BikeAround™ pairs a stationary, individually adjustable assistive bike with Google Street View to take those using the bike on a virtual ride down memory lane. Users input a street address of a place that means something to them, a childhood home or other memorable location anywhere around the world that the Google image has photographed, and use the pedals and handlebars to “bike around” their old neighborhoods and/or destinations that have personal significance. BikeAround™ also makes it possible to organize themed outings to places that the user has always wanted to experience.

Senior Star is thrilled to be on the cutting edge of delivering this type of innovative programming to the residents who live at West Park Place. “Being on the forefront of providing programs that will benefit the physical, emotional, and social well-being of the residents who call Senior Star home is inherent to our core values,” said Senior Star CEO Anja Rogers. “We are excited to bring this unique technology to residents and look forward to sharing in their personal stories and journeys from using BikeAround™.”

Locally, residents of West Park Place will experience the benefits of a program designed to keep them physically and cognitively healthy and active. “Along with other Senior Star signature programs, BikeAround™ will provide our residents with an activity that uses their muscles and increases circulation all while exercising their memory,” said Kirsten Pickle, executive director at Senior Star West Park Place. “This offers our residents the chance to reminisce or to see new places, but also encourages lifelong learning along with physical and mental exercise.”
