Laurels outdoor therapy course prepares clients for real-world challenges

When clients come to The Laurels of Toledo for rehab following an injury, illness, or surgery, the goal is always to help them regain strength, mobility, and function and then send them home—and back to their normal lives—as quickly and safely as possible. Much of this work can be accomplished in The Laurels’ state-of-the-art therapy gym, but some real-world activities and challenges are difficult to replicate in a gym setting.

Toledo Clinic Foundation helps cancer patients defray non-medical expenses

Cancer can be a very costly diagnosis. In addition to the physical and emotional toll the disease takes on patients, it can also impose a tremendous financial burden—not simply due to the high cost of medical treatments. In fact, according to Jim Walrod, president of The Toledo Clinic Foundation, approximately two-thirds of cancer patients’ monetary expenses are actually non-medical, for example the cost of transportation to and from treatment appointments and lost wages. Of course, routine expenses such as rent, childcare/eldercare, and utilities continue to mount and become even more daunting as income declines.

Sunset affiliates with Otterbein, bids fond farewell to retiring CEO

As 2020 draws to a close, Sunset Retirement Communities is looking forward with optimism to embarking on a mutually beneficial affiliation with Otterbein SeniorLife, and looking back with pride over the long, fruitful career of President/CEO Vicky Bartlett who will retire at the end of this month after 35 years of service to the organization.

UToledo leadership, including the University Board of Trustees, has worked tirelessly the last several years to stabilize UTMC.

U.S. News & World Report rates ProMedica Toledo Hospital one of Ohio’s best

Each year, U.S. News & World Report ranks our nation’s hospitals based on a variety of factors, including medical outcomes, patient experience, nurse-to-patient ratios, and many others. Designed to give patients additional information to consider in determining where to receive care, the rankings were generated by evaluating data on nearly 5,000 hospitals in 16 adult medical specialties, 10 adult procedures or conditions, and 10 pediatric specialties. The organization also ranks hospitals in each state and nearly 100 metro areas with the goal of making it easy for everyone to find excellent medical care close to home.

Elizabeth Scott begins construction on Enhanced Living units

The Elizabeth Scott Community has kicked off construction of a new set of Level 2 Enhanced Living units that will be followed by the renovation of existing Level 2 units. The construction work began several weeks ago. Virtual Design Studios in Holland, Ohio is the architect on the project, and the general contractor is Whitta Construction based in Fostoria.
