NHA integrates behavioral and physical healthcare services

The Neighborhood Health Association (NHA) continually strives to offer quality healthcare services to the uninsured and underinsured members of our community, as well as to identify opportunities to strengthen its care continuum and eliminate gaps in the services and resources provided. Recognizing a significant need for behavioral healthcare among the population it serves, NHA recently launched an Integrated Behavioral Health program to complement the wide-ranging medical services already available in its community health centers.

Great Lakes Vascular Institute streamlines access to cutting-edge vascular services

UTMC offers specialized rehab program for people with dizziness

Disorders of the vestibular system—the parts of the inner ear and brain associated with balance and spatial orientation—can greatly diminish an individual’s quality of life and ability to function on a day-to-day basis. Dizziness, vertigo, loss of balance, and visual disturbance are common complaints in people with vestibular disorders, and these can lead to secondary issues such as nausea and/or vomiting, reduced ability to focus or concentrate and fatigue. Vestibular disorders can take a heavy toll in other ways as well, often causing sufferers to experience emotional issues such, as anxiety and depression, and to become more sedentary to avoid triggering or exacerbating their symptoms, which in turn can lead to further decline in their health status.

That commitment will be reinforced once again this April when the facility expands its treatment capabilities with state-of-the-art 64-slice digital PET/CT imaging—making the cancer center the only facility in the region to offer this advanced technology.

Cancer survivorship is on the rise thanks to earlier detection, better supportive care, and today’s cutting-edge cancer treatments such as targeted therapies and immunotherapy. In fact, a recent report by the American Cancer Society, in collaboration with the National Cancer Institute, estimates that there are nearly 17 million cancer survivors in the United States today and that number is expected to grow to over 22 million by the year 2030.

Dinner and silent auction to benefit SewHope programs in Guatemala

Two thousand miles away, in the small town of Santa Ana, Guatemala, a girl is becoming the first female in her family to learn to read, thanks to a combination of hands-on instruction and an adaptive internet learning program. A previously-malnourished boy is thriving, thanks to a regimen of nutritionally fortified meals. A woman at risk for cervical cancer is healthy and confident, thanks to proper screening and treatment. Another woman is supplementing her family income by selling chickens, thanks to an agricultural co-op in her neighborhood. Communities in northern Guatemala are benefitting from these programs and more—all thanks to you, the people of Toledo.
