5 Reasons Why You Should Try Kickboxing

Written by Miranda Hassen. Posted in Blog

We all have fitness goals. Lose weight, increase muscle tone, boost metabolism, you name it. But most of us have no idea where to begin. So where do you start?

My recommendation is to find a sport that interests you, and give it a go! For a long time, I knew that going to the gym wasn't the best option for me. I would have no motivation to go, and when I would go, I wouldn't be meeting my goals. So one day it hit me: sign up for a class in kickboxing. Here are the five reasons why I think it's the best fitness decision I've made:

1. There is a professional trainer there to motivate you.

This was a huge deciding factor for me. I wanted someone there to encourage me to keep going, answer my questions about nutrition and fitness, and overall moral support.

2. It's challenging.

An hour-long workout, three times a week. This includes cardio and strength exercises. Some days it's hard to keep going, but the feeling I get one hour, 12 hours, and one day post work out is the best feeling ever. The sessions can seem brutal but they get easier with time, and I promise that the temporary soreness will bring long-term success!

3. You'll notice the results - and fast!

Now I'm not the type of person to strategically calculate my weight loss and BMI index - it's all just numbers anyway. But I can tell you that I started noticing a change in the mirror within two weeks. I lost a few pounds, and noticed that my jeans felt a bit looser around the waist!

4. It will improve you physically, mentally, and socially.

The physical effects are obvious. But let me talk about the mental and social effects. When I work out, it puts me in a great mood. Why? Because I know I'm improving the health of my body. Also, I'm not carrying that extra guilt after eating ice cream, or eating a carb-load sandwich. I can enjoy all my meals (and desserts) without worrying about weight gain. The other aspect is social - working out with a group of strangers can really be a great way to bond, make new friends, find other people that have a similar interest that you do. Let me tell you, 90% of people that signed up for this kickboxing membership had the same thoughts as me in that they want working out to be fun, especially since they feel awkward playing sports and using treadmills in gyms. The only "experts" in the room are the instructors, and they want to help you so take advantage of them!

5. It's fun!

Who knew punching and kicking could be so much fun? But it really is! Especially when in good company and listening to an upbeat playlist. It's a great way to relieve stress, and get your body in a regular routine.

Written by Miranda Hassen. Posted in Blog

‘Tis the season for 5K walks. Throughout the months of September and October, there will be several 5K running/walking fundraisers. Initially, they started off as short distance running competitions, but many organizations use them as motivation to raise money and bring awareness for various diseases, disorders, and cancers.

Do you have trouble sleeping at night? I know I do. Sleepless nights are all too common for people of all ages. It’s usually caused by stress, anxiety or having some sort of discomfort.
